Christian Services: Children’s Initiation

Christian Initiation of Children of Catechetical Age

The Christian Initiation of Children is a part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Children who are not baptized and are at least 7 years of age enter a process for their own faith journey. They register for regular Religious Education Classes, held once a week, to receive religious instruction and be with their peers. The children are known as Inquirers and then later as Catechumens.

During this initiation process godparents are invited to walk the faith journey with their Inquirer. It is a 2 year journey leading to reception of the Sacraments of Initiation which are Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The children are then invited to come back to Religious Education classes to continue their faith development as they grow in understanding of what it means to be catholic and have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
