Prayer for Catechists

O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family.

We lift them up to you in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs. May we be attentive to the presence of Your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges, is compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to service that Christ addresses to all of His disciples, contributing our gifts to the communion of faith, the Church. We ask this in Jesus’ name,

Confirmation, along with Baptism and First Eucharist (First Holy Communion) is one of the Sacraments of Initiation whereby persons become fully initiated members of the Catholic Church. Confirmation is normally required to marry in the Catholic Church; or to sponsor a child, teen or adult for Baptism or Confirmation. In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, persons usually prepare for and receive Confirmation in their High School years. Those Catholic adults (18 years or older) who have been baptized and have received First Eucharist, but did not receive Confirmation as a teen, may prepare to be confirmed by attending a 15 week course offered each year. Traditionally this course begins in January. Those adults completing the course are Confirmed with the teen candidates by Bishop Salazar Bishop at the yearly Confirmation Ceremony/Mass. The date for the Confirmation is May 27, 2017.

The 2017 Adult Confirmation course will be held in the Rectory Upstairs Room on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm beginning January 12th. The weekly sessions provide a basic update on faith, prayer, Scripture and Catholic beliefs and teachings, leading to an adult commitment to Christian discipleship and full membership in the Catholic Church.

The $50 registration fee for the course covers materials as well as the Confirmation gown for the ceremony. Copies of Baptism and First Eucharist certificates are required. Information about selection of a sponsor will be given in the class.

To register for the Adult Confirmation Course, please contact Sr. Susan Slater, SHCJ at the Parish Office (626-792-1343, X508) or by email (
