Fr. Alan Phillip, C.P.

December 30, 1939 – March 4, 2021

Father Alan Phillip, C.P, received his Masters of Divinity from St. Meinrad School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana, and pursued further theological studies at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Illinois.

Since his ordination in 1967, Fr. Alan has served in Chicago, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri and at Mater Dolorosa in Sierra Madre. He wrote several books, and was known for his nature photography.

At Assumption, Fr. Alan was deeply involved in the life of the parish and school. He was famous for his thoughtful homilies and corny, laugh-out-loud jokes.

”May the angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs come to welcome you to the holy city…where you will find eternal rest.”

Fr. Alan asked to be cremated. The Wake and Funeral Services will be held at Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center on April 7th and 8th, respectively. He will be interned at the Passionist Cemetery on the Retreat Center grounds.
