Bio

  • BA in Urban Learning – Cal State LA

I began my career at Assumption School in the Fall of 2000. I started working part time in Gator Club as an after school daycare attendant. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in Gator working with young kids. I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher and I truly feel that my time spent in Gator helped to solidify my decision to pursue teaching as my vocation. Shortly thereafter I was asked to join the faculty as the Visual Arts teacher for 1st – 4th grade. I have been passionate about art since an early age and I am continuing to develop my own body of work, so I gladly jumped at the opportunity. I still view it as one of the coolest jobs in the world. I believe that all children are born artists. I feel that creativity is an extremely important part of a students’ education and it needs to be nurtured and valued in our schools. In the Fall of 2008 I began working full time as a substitute teacher and instructional aide in 1st grade. I have also taught 8th grade Social Studies for two years. In 2010, I began teaching Visual Arts to students in 5th – 8th grade. In 2012, I received my BA in Urban Learning from Cal State LA with an emphasis on multiple subject education and multicultural education.

I currently spend a majority of my day in 2nd grade as an instructional aide as well as providing writing instruction to the students in that class. In the afternoon I teach Visual Arts to all students in grades 1 – 8. Aside from teaching, I am also the coordinator of the Certificate of Merit Award Program in Visual and Performing Arts for grades 5 – 8. I also coordinate and produce our yearly talent show and work as a teacher in our summer school program.

I am grateful to be a part of the Assumption family and I look forward to many more years of nourishing and educating our children as they grow, play, and learn.
